4 Things To Look For In A Preschool Environment To Help Your Child With Separation Anxiety

If you are starting your child up in preschool, it can be difficult to get your child well adjusted if they are used to being at home with you. For this reason, you may be concerned about your child having some separation anxiety. This is why you need to look for these four things in a preschool to help with this transition:

  1. A Practice Day: The preschool that you choose should allow you to have a free practice day before you officially sign your child up to attend that preschool. This allows your child to give it a try for one day. You should also be sure that the preschool will allow you to stay for a few minutes to help with the transition. This way, you can really figure out whether or not a transition into this preschool is best for your child. You can also have a better idea of how well you and your child like the way the preschool is run.
  2. Teachers Don't Encourage Sneaking Out: The teachers should be supportive and understanding that your child is getting adjusted. You should take note whether or not the preschool encourages the parent sneaking out. If so, it can be distressing for your child and cause them to lose trust in both the preschool and you. This is why you should be sure that you choose a preschool that helps with the process of separation instead of trying to avoid it by having the parents simply sneak out.
  3. Doesn't Make You Anxious: If you feel any kind of anxiety about the preschool, then you shouldn't ultimately choose that one. You should choose one that you are comfortable with so when you drop your child off, you are calm and collected, which your child will feed off of. If you are anxious, your child will be as well.
  4. Allows Students to Bring Something from Home: Most preschools will allow your child to bring in their favorite toy or blanket that they like to sleep with for nap time. When your child brings a little piece of home with them, it can definitely help them feel more comfortable and they might even be excited to show it off to their new friends at school.

When you know what things to look for, you can be sure that you choose a preschool that is easy enough for yourself and your child to get adjusted to. Check out a company like Kid's Country Learning Center to get started.
